Description
A nickel coated gas welding alloy formulated to simplify the repair of cast iron components
The special alloying elements incorporated in procus 99 allows for the easy weld repair of cast iron components.
- corrosion resistance equal to cast iron.
- can be applied without porosity.
- fully machineable deposits.
- easy to apply and deposits are a perfect colour match to cast iron.
High quality, machineable weld repairs can be made with procus 99
Procus 99. A high quality, nickel coated cast iron torch alloy that enables the easy welding of cast iron.
Prior to the development of cast iron welding electrodes the repair of cast iron components were largely done by brazing. Repairs can be successfully completed with this process but a fundamental problem is that, once a cast iron component is brazed, it is difficult, if not impossible, to re-weld that same repair with conventional cast iron electrodes and gas welding alloys. In its molten state the bronze alloy impregnates the grain boundaries of the cast iron to form its bond but the bronze is not compatible with that of the conventional welding alloys, making further or later weld repairs difficult or impossible.
However, on the positive side, because there is a considerably less concentration of heat, less embrittlement and stress zones are created, providing for a sounder weld.
Procus 99 is a cast iron, gas welding alloy that is an easy to use alternative to the brazing of cast iron components. Importantly, because of its alloy composition it does not permeate, to the same extent, the grain boundaries, as does bronze, of the cast iron component being repaired. This permits later repairs to be more easily completed, to that same joint, by other processes without the problems created by bronze. Further, because of the low melting, easy flowing characteristics of the procus 99 alloy, it can be applied to cast iron components without the creation of, or minimum, stress points, thus providing for a reliable weld repair.
Preheating to a minimum of 370 ºc is necessary to repair gray cast iron. However, with the use of procus 99 alloy the application heat is not as concentrated, as it is with other processes. This results in a minimum of martensite formations and so providing for a crack free, machineable weld. Procus 99 is a superb product to use for the gas welding of cast irons.
