Procus 221 alloy formulation contains special elements which enables deposits to resist wear at high temperatures.
From time to time special cutting tools may be required to ensure the machining of a particular job or work at hand. Because of the high red heat generated during the cutting process, deposits of ordinary high speed steel welding rods may not have the high heat retention qualities to maintain a cutting edge during the machining operation. If a cutting tool was made with a deposit from an ordinary electrode, then this deficiency is likely to lead to an inadequate machining job or downtime because of tool/deposit failure.
The alloy formulation of procus 221 provides a deposit which has a fine grain structure with a high compressive strength. The result is a high speed steel deposit, uniform in hardness, so as to provide maximum serviceability. The high heat retention qualities of the deposits ensure that quality cutting edges can be maintained, even at high red temperatures, when a cutting tool is made using a shock resistant steel for a shank.
As deposits of procus 221 will maintain their hardness at much higher temperatures than ordinary tool steel deposits, higher tool speeds and feeds, with minimum tool sharpening, are also achievable.
Deposits of procus 221 can be used for the repair of punches, milling cutters, boring bars, lathe tools, broaches, shear blades etc. It is also ideally suited for many other types of metal to metal wear applications. Deposits of procus 607 can be used a cushion layer, where applicable, to absorb impact.

Annealing temperature: 851 ºc (1,575 ºf)
Tempering temperature: 565 ºc (1,050 ºf)
Hardening temperature: 1,204 ºc (2,000 ºf)
